The Camp Paul Overnight Program is a week long recreational camping experience for individuals with special needs over the age of 14. Participants engage in a traditional camp experience including bonfires, s’mores, cookouts, swimming, and nature walks. Throughout the week participants choose which offered activities they would like to join allowing them to practice self-advocacy and choice making. Activities consist of crafts, music, movement, swimming, and meal planning and preparation.
Camp Paul Overnight is a week long traditional camping experience for individuals with special needs allowing for peer socialization, community outings, and the development of independent living skills within a fun, recreational setting. This program is open to individuals over the age of 14 who possess basic communication, independent living skills, and safety awareness. The participant is encouraged to independently choose from a variety of daytime activities, including swimming, fishing, nature hikes, cooking, scavenger hunts, volleyball, basketball, music and art activities.
As with all the programs at The Paul Center, when a ‘teaching moment’ occurs staff take the opportunity to maximize this opportunity to teach and reinforce appropriate skills and responses. Each year the Westford-Chelmsford Knights of Columbus sponsors a Day Carnival, starting with a special breakfast, followed by outdoor games, activities, and prizes. Other activities during the week include sing-a-longs, bonfires, campfire stories, special guests, cookouts, a movie night, and a luau night with swimming. The highlight of the week is an annual dance where participants dress up, dance, and enjoy music and entertainment from the DJ.
